One of the most historic and important annual events for Métis citizens is getting a major contemporary complement.

“Walking through the Batoche grounds, they can go to the children’s area, they can go to the Voyageur games, they can go to the horse races, and they can go to all these different places that we have when we have our Batoche festival. And they can go to all of these same places in the game and interact,” Fiss said. 

The Métis National Council is hoping to revitalize the Michif language by reaching Métis kids. The Métis Life project has launched on Roblox, an online game platform with more than 85 million daily players.

Métis Nation–Saskatchewan (MN–S), in partnership with Maskwa Games, is launching a new training opportunity aimed at Métis youth interested in game development, design, and digital storytelling. 

One of Canada’s largest celebrations of Métis culture is set to return to the historic site of Batoche this summer.

Back to Batoche Days will take place July 16 to 19 at the Batoche National Historic Site, bringing together thousands of visitors for four days of music, sport, food, and cultural education.
